Some people dream and some people don’t.
I ruminated with a friend of mine about this after she got a strange reaction to her holiday plans and wondered what was the reason for it.
Some people dream and some people don’t.
Okay, it’s probably not that simple.
I’ve been doing a lot of research on dreams and vision, so I decided to record a podcast episode on this topic.
Why we dream and realize – or not – has probably several reasons in the end.
I need time for dreaming. Dreaming can give me positive energy.
So why is dreaming so difficult?
I am quite content with my life and grateful for what I have.
I can imagine that dreaming can be harder when someone is not so happy because it might make the status quo look even worse.
For me dreaming does not mean that I want to dream myself away from the current state.
Dreaming means for me to think about what might be there at some point. And it helps me realize where I want to go.
If you walk into a travel agency and have no idea what you want, you either don’t book anything – or you are really open and take what is offered to you.
The more clearly you know what you want, the more likely you are to enjoy your holiday.
Realizing takes courage.
In doing it, it helps us to find out the greater vision we have.
Why don’t you write down your great vision so that you can see it every day?
At best, the vision gives you such energy that you jump out of bed in the morning excited because you want to get a little closer to your vision.
In any case, it makes sense that you think about steps to get there.
You can think of something you want to do every day or every week.
You can think of concrete goals that you set for yourself. It makes sense that the goals are SMART. SMART is an acronym, meaning that each of the letters of the word “SMART” stands for a separate word.
If you don’t know this yet and want to use it, google this or have a look at wikipedia.
Well, the first step is dreaming. Then comes the doing.
One of my favorite sayings is:
“I’d rather live a life of “oh wells” than “what ifs.”
So I’d rather say, „Oh no that was awful” than not do it and wonder, “What if…?”
I have been living by this motto for quite some time. And it’s had its moments. I’ve seen some really great things. And I’ve seen some really unpleasant things. I’ve fallen on my face, learned the hard way that I don’t want something after all. And I got turned down. Not that I like rejection. But whether it’s work, love, or anything else: I’d rather try it.
For example, I don’t want to spend weeks, months or even years trying to be sure that someone is interested in me or that something could work out: I just ask. I try it out.
In my adult life I don’t ask myself: What if?
If I really wanted it, I tried it. Of course that means that some priorities change in the meantime. For example: Last year I had the initial idea for my German podcast on July 6th and on August 7th my podcast was already live.
I myself have been working with a vision board since last year and can really recommend it to you.
You can only use it for one area of your life, for example your job – or for several or all areas.
How does that work?
For your dreams and visions you look for appropriate pictures. You can use magazines for this. I like it better to google pictures or even to put them together with an image editing program. For example, during my short vacation in Cuxhaven (in Germany) last year I created a picture for the podcast and immediately wrote the whole title on it.
You can then print the pictures or order them as a photo.
You can be very creative for the board. Take a pinboard, a board or whatever you like. I myself have painted a very large canvas in purple and it is leaning upstairs in my hallway.
And then you stick all your pictures on the board.
And of course you can update it regularly and add pictures.
I wish you a lot of fun while dreaming, being creative and experiencing great things. And also when you fall on your face and get up again more courageously.
Be happy & be light
